Question:

If I click the on link "Handling of the player" in a video window, the help page is opened in a tab of the video window. I must scroll then both horizontal and vertically, in order to be able to read contents of the help page, what in particular with small videos is very unpleasant. How can I change that behavior?

Answer:

Firefox opens new pages according to standard in a new tab. With the Internet Explorer this phenomenon in the standard attitude does not arise. To the remedy there are two possibilities:

Change the standard attitude in Firefox: "extras | options | tabs": New pages are to be opened: In a new window.
Click on The link "Handling of the player" with "Shift" + left mouse button or open the context menu with the right mouse button and select "open link in new window".

In addition the help page can be opened by clicking Help (FAQ) on the menu.

The Videos

Question:

I cannot play the videos, they load for a very long time and then stop again then after short.

Answer:

An undisturbed regarding of the videos presupposes necessarily a fast Internet connection. Thus DSL and faster. On a slow Internet access the following procedure may also help: hold the stop button a few minutes, then play.

Question:

The video can be played only a short piece or loads only up to a certain number of per cent and breaks off then.

Answer:

In this case empty fist of all the cache of the browser. If that does't help anything, the problem can be elimiated in most cases through updating the Adobe Flash Player (see button in the upper right corner).

Question:

Can I look at the videos in fullscreen mode?

Answer:

Yes, if a Adobe Flash Player is installed starting from version 9.0.28, an appropriate symbol appears in the controle module of the flash player (see Handling of the player). The newest Adobe Flash Player can be updated for free (see button in the upper right corner).

How can I examine, which version of Adobe Flash Player is installed on my system?

Answer:

The button in the upper right corner leads on a Adobe Site, which indicates the installed version.

Handling of the Player

Question:

Which functions does the Player have?

Answer:

The player is handled as follows:

The loaded area contains the elapsed part (black) of the video and the preloaded part (grey) after the playing position. In this area you can jump to another position of the video. When the video has loaded completely, the remaining time is showed instead of the loading percentage. From now you can jump to any position of the video.

You can handle the player by keyboard input. Therefor, you have to click once on a free area of the players control module!

Space: start / stop video
left arrow: video jumps a few seconds back
right arrow: video jumps a few seconds forward
tab key (several times): gate is highlighted in yellow. Press return key

If you can't see the symbol for fullscreen mode on your player, you must update Adobe Flash Player into a higher version (see The Videos).

About the Player

Question:

I like the player. Can I use it for the videos on my homepage?

Answer:

Yes, the very recommendable JW FLV Media Player from Jeroen Wijering is a player that can be embedded in Web pages and does not need any flash authoring tool. Control is via HTML or Javascript. For to play the videos, the Adobe flash player has to be installed on the client-computer. The JW FLV media player is licensed under a Creative Commons license, for corporate unse there is only a small fee.
