Dalai Lama: Introduction to Tibetan Buddhism Part 1 and 2His Holiness has chosen a theme for the occasion that can be understood by those who are interested in Buddhism but who don't know much about it so that they may receive teachings from the original, pure source. This will help them to become familiar with the most important teachings of the Buddha and to begin to form a picture of the roots of Tibetan Buddhism. His Holiness has been giving regular teachings in Western countries for many years. The programmes have two parts: the so-called “public teaching” for people who are not familiar with Buddhist philosophy, and the “Buddhist teaching” for those who are more advanced in Buddhist practice. Finally there will be a special event that is a part of the Tibetan tradition and practice: the initiation, or blessing.
Dalai Lama: The Buddha of Compassion (Chenrezi), blessing and initiationIn the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Chenrezi (in Sanskrit: Avalokiteshvara) is the bodhisattva of compassion, who embodies and gives life to the selfless helpfulness, and to the caring and undiscriminating love that is genuinely in us. To the ordinary mind he is a god, whom the Tibetan people have worshipped for centuries.
